The show

TEATRO DELUSIO plays with the infinite facets of the world of theatre. Dizzying combat scenes, criminal intrigues and heart-rending arias reap incomparable triumphs night after night – but this is only one side of the coin. There is another: the area behind the stage, almost in darkness, where three stagehands lead an existence without any glamour, without dreams… and without illusions too?

Familie Flöz has created a small family. This time, the theatre is to become their home and their playground. Bob is young and capable, strong and unpredictable; Bernd is a sickly sort, chronically weary, forever shuttling from one place to another carrying out orders; and Iván is an insatiable layabout who has no wish to lose the control he wields over the theatre. Light years away from the dazzling stars of the stage – though separated from them by no more than a flimsy backdrop – the three underlings devote themselves tirelessly to the pursuit of their own happiness.

The company

Flöz (meaning "seam", the layer of earth in which precious minerals are deposited) has its origins in the Folkwang-Hochschule Essen, the only state institution in Germany for the training of physical theatre. The company is known for making theatre by means that precede words. The fundamental paradox of masks – covering the face with a static form in order to create living characters – is precisely the stimulus and the challenge for the actor. But not for the actor alone. The mask comes to life in the imagination of the spectator, who thereby becomes, in a sense, a creator too.
