Ex aequo Award for Best Contemporary Circus Show — FETEN 2026
UpArte’s fourth work is the most ambitious production by the Murcia-based company. Inspired by the myth of Sisyphus and Albert Camus’s reinterpretation of it, bodies in flight and in balance explore the futility of human endeavour through the dramaturgy of the image. With a cast of 14 first-rate acrobats, the work reflects the inevitable collision with the walls we encounter, both physical and symbolic. A metaphor for the meaning (or meaninglessness) of existence, with the visual poetry of contemporary circus and a complex, daring technique as its principal languages.
The company
UpArte is a contemporary circus company founded in 2012 in Murcia, Spain. From its beginnings, it has stood out for creating shows that combine high-level acrobatic skills with a contemporary, aesthetic approach. Over the course of its career, it has established itself as one of the most interesting emerging companies on the Spanish contemporary circus scene.
