The Show
Sophocles was a restless, committed playwright with a profound sense of the social and humanistic meaning of theatre. Establishing a contemporary connection with an author, so far removed by time yet so close in his poetic sensibility, also presents a truly stimulating artistic challenge. OEDIPUS REX is one of the great creations of the Greek tragedians that endures in the imagination of modern human beings in the clearest and most evocative way. This is a unique production in which the beauty of the puppets, the lyricism of the chorus, and live music combine, creating a ritual atmosphere that elevates each and every one of its characters – a poetic space ambiguous between the sacred and the irremediably human.
Bambalina appeared on the Valencian scene in 1981, focusing its attention on the unique modality of puppet theatre. The company has always stood out for its desire to open up the world of puppetry to clearly interdisciplinary realms. In its long history, it has staged emblematic titles from universal literary and musical repertoires such as Pinocchio, Don Quixote, Ulysses, Cyrano de Bergerac, Alice, El Retablo de Maese Pedro (Master Peter’s Puppet Show), Carmen, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. It has also developed a more personal line of creation with productions like El Jardín de las Delicias (The Garden of Earthly Delights), Pasionaria, La Sonrisa de Federico García Lorca (The Smile of Federico García Lorca), and Kiti Kraft. They have a MAX Award from 2018 and countless Valencian Performing Arts awards to their name.
